Russia gave the thunder. By 1930, Soviet engineers were turning parachutes into an empire. Thousands of men, vehicles, and weapons poured from the sky in massive drills meant to shock the world. The VDV — the Airborne Troops — became the spearhead of Soviet doctrine: strike deep, fast, and without mercy. Their creed, “Никто кроме нас” — nobody but us — wasn’t bravado. It was fatalism. If the impossible had to be done, they were the ones to fall first.
